Florence's food scene offers respectable ramen, Asian-Tuscan fusion from Picchi, Peruvian causas, Venezuelan arepas, Georgian dumplings, Persian kebab and now (decent) American BBQ?! Stumbled upon @philsbarbecue at one of the riverside "estivo" street food pop-up complexes, which does Texas BBQ with some Kansas City & North Carolina meat tricks. My honest advice: the slaw and pickled onions are palate cleansing necessities, do the brisket and let me know how the spare ribs are. Plus they serve tasty craft beer alongside by @piccolobirrificioclandestino (APA- yum). Another tip: most of the tables at the La Toraia pop-up are wobbly and you'd think it wouldn't need a mention but one jiggle and that frosty beer will shower you by 9pm guaranteed- word from the un-wise clumsy lush! #estatefiorentina2018 #eater 🍻🤤(insert rib emoji)

Let's eat guts: Florence's offal pride and joy Lampredotto is the 4th ruminant abomasum- not the same as tripe- which is the first rumen stomach. Texture wise- tripe is more chewy/bland and lampredotto is softer and flavorful. I would make bets with anyone squirmish to lampredotto to head to Il Magazzino in Piazza della Passera, the city's OG Osteria premised primarily on gutsy stuff. Start with the polpette which are like fried meatballs but instead of ground beef, lampre and the tempura (cooked) lampre sushy rolls doused in soy. Then gorge on the lampredotto-stuffed ravioli with a sweet onion sauce atop- looks brutto but it's mega buono. Then let me know 🤤 For the bizarre eater in us all- viva il lampredotto! ❤️#drivenbyfood #womanvsfood

While I was busy stuffing my face with gelato (precisely: salted caramel, pistach and Modica choco) the team @saveurmag were sending out emails to finalists for this year's #savblogawards- and my what a pleasant surprise! Not a melon, not a cuke but a cucuzza- Sicilian serpent squash! Back in San Francisco, I was constantly bewildered by the array of international vegetable & fruit varieties for sale at grower markets like bitter melon, Thai basil, poblano chilis (and overall pepper galore). It served as reminder of a difficult question: "how could any eating human be so foolish towards immigration- if anything for at least food's sake!" Markets in Italy on the other hand tend to be rather Italian and predictable in comparison, although in Florence you can find stands brimming with Chinese and Peruvian produce. Food stalls here are so regional that even veg from across the boot may seem foreign! I've never seen these Sicilian squash- have you? #f52grams

Florence while not renowned for the best water thus neither coffee (instead, one of the reasons Naples is held dear for the best espresso and pizza- it's the 💦) And while caffeine enthusiasts seem to clamor over 3rd wave coffee- there are heaps to appreciate in Florence's historical old-school cafes like Rivoire. I could name all the joys you may find- from the baristas in dapper attire and the sheer weight of its impact on Florentine food/drink culture across over 100 years, but namely joyance is guaranteed with decidedly Italian espresso and a tiny sweet snack like this dark chocolate & candied orange Tuscan cantuccio. ❤️#curiousappetite #foodtours

Stumbled upon this gem of a snack bar @bodegasf in North Beach: quaint selection of wines including some juicy natty picks from @idlewildwines and @broccellars and sweep you off your taste buds bites like sweet potato tacos and za'atar spiced lamb meatballs over thick labneh decked in fresh dill, mint and sumac 😍 🥂🌮🍠#eaterSF

Spending my last Sunday in San Francisco and last day as a ripe 32 perusing the fragrant bounty that is California at the Civic Plaza farmer's market- very affordable, varied and delicious seasonal produce here! 🍑🥗#califresh #leoseason

The mission district in San Francisco is a very special place, besides burritos and bi-rite ice cream there are socially impactful mural projects and hubs like the women's center here- a non-profit with community programs like financial and wellness coaching plus other resources for female empowerment. So far, the mission is proving to be my favorite quarter of San Francisco ❤️
