Quick Facts

Private Tour vs Small Group Tour:
SMALL GROUP Tour means a standard itinerary is followed and the time slot/experience is open to anyone signing up. We don’t believe in flags, umbrellas or name tags- we keep tours small and personal so we can visit special places and get to know each other. PRIVATE Tour means a premium tasting itinerary, having the undivided attention of the tour guide & our partner stops for your traveling party, can go at your own pace, off-menu surprises and have the exclusivity to pick and choose.

Private Tour info:
Each food tour in Florence is a half-day experience ranging from 2.5 to 4 hours but may be combined for a full-day experience. Please visit one of the detail pages to request. Have a specific dietary lifestyle? Let us know how we can accommodate!

...and MORE

Don't see what you're curious about? Let us know if you need additional suggestions or if you’d like us to design a private tour .

Have more questions? Consult these FAQs

  • Our tours are a standard half-day, which is 3 hours, which gives you plenty of time to go at a relaxed pace and soak up the local culture.

  • It depends on the time of year, but our max is 6-8 people to ensure an enjoyable experience where you can engage with the guide, fellow participants and the purveyors we meet.

Should you have a bigger group of people, no problem! Please submit a contact us form to arrange a private custom tour with us!

  • Of course, we will let you know which stops are the most convenient. We do always recommend planning to go prior to the scheduled experience for max comfortability.

  • The cooking classes are held in Florence, and depending on the cooking format most are located in the historical city center area (i.e Sant’ambrogio or Santo Spirito). Our food tours are concentrated in the historical city center of Florence, Milan or Bologna.

  • We have designated meeting locations for all of our cooking class and food tour formats, all are concentrated in the historic center.

*Cooking classes locations in Florence may vary based on group size and instructor availability, but locations can range from Sant’ambrogio to Santo Spirito zones.

Florence is a small & walkable city, and all of our meeting points are generally a short walk from most hotels and residences for those who are staying in the main city center zone. There are also plenty of accessible public transport options or taxis, in case you are staying outside of the historic center confines.

See the tour-specific website listing for more information.

  • Sure! We are happy to arrange custom hotel pickups and are available upon request for an additional fee as they require extra time with your guide and coordination.

  • Most of our group join-in experiences are friendly and adaptable to vegetarians and those living a gluten-free dietary lifestyle. However, bear in mind group tours still follow a standard menu and itinerary, and if there is a serious food allergy, we cannot guarantee against cross-contamination.

Alternatively, if you’d like to totally personalize a tasting itinerary according to your specific dietary lifestyle and/or if there are several restrictions to accommodate in your party, we would suggest considering arranging a private experience.

Some examples: Vegan-friendly options: Gourmet Wine window crawl, Fresh Homemade Pasta and Gnocchi Lesson in Florence

Vegetarian-friendly options: Historic Florence Food Lover’s tour, Street Food and Market Walk,Aperitivo Tour of Florence, Progressive Tuscan Dining Crawl *For our progressive dinner crawl, we can definitely arrange a vegetarian alternative to the steak and all other stops are easily adjustable, as long as you’re not squeamish with being around rare cooked steak! However, if you are part of a bigger group size, the most ideal would be to organize a private tour so we may bespoke the menu.

For gluten-free (not celiac): Gourmet Wine window crawl, Aperitivo Tour of Florence, Historic Florence Food Lover’s tour, Florence Artisan Gelato Stroll.

For Celiacs: Private cooking class (Tuscan cooking). One of our instructors has been certified by ASL to work w/ celiacs.

  • Our pricing may seem elevated on paper compared to others, but we provide various added values. As we specialize in small groups (max 8), our overhead is higher than that of another group that’s 12-15. Our guides are extremely experienced, specialized (i.e., sommeliers, food historians, etc), and have been doing this for years and we compensate them accordingly. Most of our tasting stops are sit-down, which come at a higher cost. And most of all, we invest in high-quality tastings that are served at ample portions.

  • Yes, our pricing listed is all-inclusive, including the time spent with the guide, food and drink tastings.

  • Tipping is discretionary- we pay our partners competitively so a little extra is appreciated if you feel obliged to show appreciation for them going above & beyond (plus we all work together in the pre-planning so if you feel super happy with how it all went planned) or if the experience goes a bit overtime.

  • With a private tour, you'll have the added benefit of being able to customize to your party's needs, go at your own pace, have the undivided attention of the guide, as well as have the flexibility to make extra stops or include extra tastings based on your curiosities! We send over additional probing questions (in-depth questionnaire) to optimize your experience.

  • We have a few tours, mainly food-focused, and are a great fit for guests who don’t drink alcohol.

Example options are: Street Food Florence Market Walk, Florence Historic Food Lover’s Tour, and Florence Artisan Gelato Stroll. Alcohol is minimal in these experiences and not the main focus. We’re also happy to customize any tour to accommodate your preferences, including arranging alternative non-alcoholic beverages so you can still enjoy a complete tasting experience. Please note that we do not offer discounts for guests who choose not to drink alcohol. Our operational costs remain the same, and we still arrange alternative beverages and reserve a seat at the table for each guest.

  • Pricing details can be found directly on each experience page by clicking on the dropdown “Pricing & Schedule” section.

  • Our Cancellation policy is located on the FAQ page.

If you have any additional questions, please write to bookings@curiousappetitetravel.com or please fill out our contact us form.

  • We’re happy to help! In many cases, it’s possible to arrange a private tour buyout by selecting the available group tour time slot and purchasing all 8 tickets at the group rate. This reserves the tour slot exclusively for your party.

If you have questions about availability or would like assistance with the booking process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to bookings@curiousappetitetravel.com or please fill out our contact us form.

  • Our food lover’s tour concentrates on the historical city center, and is ideal for guests who enjoy combining food tastings with historical and architectural storytelling. We’ll visit legacy businesses and uncover places that are often hidden in plain sight—spots you likely wouldn’t find on your own.

The market walk takes place in a more local neighborhood around Sant’Ambrogio and Santa Croce. You’ll begin at a café frequented by the local working crowd before walking through the neighborhood’s daily market. You’ll visit a various produce stands where you’ll get to see what’s in season, learn how to shop like a local, and get some insider cooking tips. (i.e. how to prepare artichokes, how zucchini flowers are used or learning about different varieties of tomatoes). This tour offers a no-frills, deeper dive into the Florentine and Tuscan cooking pantry and everyday food culture.

  • Booking a private experience of any of our tour formats, we can modify the itinerary for the stops to be closer together for those who have difficulty with long distances. Our progressive dining experience and its itinerary is especially mobility-friendly, on both small group and private formats.
